Marshalling on the Baja

An overview.

This is our third year running this event, from our qualifying round in 2006 and the first championship round in 2007 we aim to improve each year and provide our competitors and visitors with the best event in the series and one with which we can all be proud.

As in previous years we will have a number of classes running, from International and National Cars, Motor cycles and Quads

The event starts on Thursday 25 with scrutineering. On Friday afternoon there will be a super special just outside Aberystwyth, this will be used to establish the seeding.
The main event will be on the Saturday and Sunday with selectives in Hafren, Myherin and Tarenig.
These selectives will broadly follow the same pattern as last year, however they will be longer !!

How you can help.

We need marshals ...... lots of them. You do not need a 4x4, there is no live recovery and most marshals posts are on gravel track.
Radio crews are needed to provide normal MSA safety cover, in addition we need radios on the "A" system to provide positive tracking of the competitors, these radios will be provided by the organisers, but will only be used by MSA licenced radio operators.
We also need marshals for the spectator areas and other areas which the safety officer has identified.
I know many will avoid spectator areas, but last year they were close to burger bars and toilets and had possibly some of the best views available. Please don't confuse this with the WRGB, our spectators are a lot fewer and certainly a lot better behaved.

We also need help setting up the selectives, this will be done at the begining of the week, if you can help with this please let me know via the text box in the form below. Let me know which days you would be available and how many are in your team.

What do I need ?

The day starts very early, unfortunately we can do little about this, we have to follow the FIA. So please make sure you set off with plenty to eat and drink, spare warm, waterproof clothing is also be essential. The selectives will be in excess of 40 miles, make sure you have enough fuel !!
A PMR is also essential to keep in touch with other marshals near you and also to be kept informed of hold ups via the nearest radio crew. They can be bought quite cheaply and can assist you in getting help should you have an incident at your location. Don't forget that due to your likely location that mobile phones may not work.
Just to sum it up, warm clothing, food and drink. Check all your kit the day before and get an early night, we could be looking at 3.00am starts for some crews

How can we help ?

We will always find you a post that you are comfortable with, we have no intentions of dropping people in at the deep end !!
I will post the marshals briefing notes for you to download from this website nearer the date. We will also provide free camping for tents and caravans at a central location. All day food and a bar will be available at Rally HQ in Aberystwyth.
We will provide you with selective maps, time schedule and your location in the week before the event.

Marches will be holding a two day training session on the 14 / 15 June. This is intended to complement the usual MSA training days with subjects that address the different skills needed for our motorsport. Please click on the navigation bar for organisers and then navigate to the marshals page for more information.

If you helped on last years event and would like to do a simular job, then please let me know ASAP.
I will add more information to this page as we get nearer to the event, so please call back.

Please take a few moments to fill in the form below if you would like to help.
